1. Big Head, Big Head, never worry about heavy rain. Others have umbrella, I have my big head – This is a Taiwanese children’s song. You can listen to it here and I used the first translation found here. Stuck with the english translation instead of Da Tou (Big Head) since the lyrics is already translated, but if you think Da Tou will still be better, let me know~
2. A patch of orange fur = scary apetite – This should be referring to how orange tabby cats are known to love eating. So even though the kitten only has that patch of amber fur, they are worried that his appetite will be like orange tabby cats.

Lin Yanchen felt that Chu Xun was the kindest person in the world. The older teared up over seeing a poor kitten.

Actually, the kitten reminded Chu Xun of himself.

This was a stray kitten.

One with a strong vitality.

Lin Yanchen wrapped the kitten with a dry towel and sat next to the stove to keep it warm. Worried about the kitten, Chu Xun kept his eyes on it to monitor its condition, touching it every now and then, and getting a weak response each time.

Chu Xun didn’t sleep, so Lin Yanchen stayed up the entire night too.

By morning, the kitten’s breathing had become more stable. A veterinarian came to see the kitten, prescribed some medicine, and briefly cleaned the stains on its lower body.

Chu Xun spent most of the day doing nothing, just watching after this dirty little kitten.

After he breathed out a sigh of relief when he confirmed that the kitten’s life was saved, drowsiness flooded his mind like a tide.

Lin Yanchen coaxed, “Take a nap. I’ll look after the kitten. It will be fine.”

Chu Xun fell asleep the moment his head hit the pillow. He slept for about five to six hours, as if he fell into coma. It was already almost night when he woke up, asking immediately, “Where’s the kitten?”

“It’s here.” Lin Yanchen was very efficient. He had already found someone to make a flannel cat bed stuffed with cotton. The kitten was lying in the bed, covered with a warm blanket. Chu Xun reached out to touch the kitten. The kitten warm, soft and breathing. Even though it was still weak, it was alive.

They prepared goat milk and used the smallest bottle they could find to feed the kitten. The kitten’s teeth had not grown yet, so it had to suck the goat milk hardly.

Chu Xun watched as it drank the milk in big gulps, soaking the fur around its mouth in the milk too, looking so alive.

It survived. That’s great. At least before Chu Xun dies, he saved a life.

Lin Yanchen laughed happily over his own thought as he watched Chu Xun feed the kitten.

Chu Xun asked him, “What are you laughing at? And what should we do next? Find someone to adopt it?”

“Why don’t we raise it on our own?” Lin Yanchen said with a grin, “Ah Xun, don’t you think we look like its parents like this?”

Chu Xun’s first reaction was to object because he already had no time to raise a pet. But on second thought, he realised he would eventually need to leave, so why not raise this kitten and leave it to Xiao Lin. “Then you’ll be in charge of giving it a name… Our kid’s dad?”

Lin Yanchen laughed out loud. “Let me think about it.”

He reached out one finger and stroked the kitten’s head, making it whimper softly. He murmured after a while, “Mhm… It has a big head and a small body. Let’s call it Big Head. Big Head, Big Head, never worry about heavy rain. Others have umbrella, I have my big head.1 I hope this kitten can grow up safely.”

“Come again?” Chu Xun laughed along. “I thought you’d give it a name like the ones those horses have. A foreign name like Nancy, Jack or something.”

Lin Yanchen answered, not realising what was wrong with Chu Xun’s remark at that moment, “Don’t you think Big Head sounds more intimate ?”

So, this kitten was named Big Head.

It was rather stubborn, surviving to the second day and by the third day, it could move about. Its eyes were half open, probably able to open fully in two days time.

After giving it a wash, they realised Big Head was a beautiful white kitten, long fur and snow-white, except the patch of amber fur on its head. Even though it was just a patch of orange fur, it was frightening to think about how scary the kitten’s appetite would be in the future2.

Chu Xun seemed to have cheered up a lot with the addition of the kitten, even sharing more about himself with Lin Yanchen. “I raised a yellow cat before when I was younger. He was called Mimi and he passed away when he was twenty years old. Aish, I still remember waking up that morning to realise he wasn’t moving in his cardboard cat bed. I cried for very long. But thinking about it, all living thing will eventually die, so it’s good that he was able to die in his sleep without suffering.”

Lin Yanchen studied in a boarding school since young and hardly returned home, so he didn’t raise any pet. He bought horses when he grew up, but it was similar to buying sports cars, unlike having a cat or a dog. This was his first time raising a pet. He took care of it as though it was his son.

They spent these few days caring for the kitten, camping indoors to play games in the warm house.

“Let’s make and eat dumplings on the night of New Year’s Eve.” Chu Xun suggested.

Lin Yanchen agreed immediately, “Sure! I haven’t made dumplings before.”

Chu Xun asked, “Will Mr Ad and the helpers be given a day off? Do you want to invite them to eat the dumplings together?”

“Ad won’t be on leave. The cook won’t be on leave too, but if we are cooking by ourselves, we can let him take a day off.”

The day before New Year’s Eve.

They asked Mr Ad to take care of Big Head for half a day. Chu Xun brought Lin Yanchen to the local Chinatown to purchase the necessary ingredients.

The streets were decorated with colourful lanterns and were filled with festive atmosphere of Chinese New Year.

Red and warm.

Chu Xun felt energised the moment he entered this lively bazaar. He was like a fish in water, skillfully shopping and bargaining like no tomorrow.

“I realised you really like shopping. I’ve never really seen someone bargaining before.” Lin Yanchen commented after he excitedly observed Chu Xun.

Chu Xun thought, that’s because you’re a young master who lives in a luxury house and raises horses. You don’t lack money while I’m a poor person, so how can I not live with careful planning? But instead of exposing Lin Yanchen, he asked, “Do you want me to teach you?”

Lin Yanchen took up the offer, went to buy an item using what Chu Xun taught him and felt overjoyed after he succeeded in bargaining.

Chu Xun even mocked Lin Yanchen. “Aren’t you silly? You could have bargained more.”

“Eh, but I think it’s not easy for the old man making a business too.”

Chu Xun clicked his tongue. “If you keeping thinking like this, you’ll never be able to surpass me in your life.”

“Then I will rely on Ah Xun to take care of me all my life.” Lin Yanchen went along with what Chu Xun said.

Chu Xun was surprised for a moment. Then he laughed and shook his head lightly, not agreeing or disagreeing.

They carried many bags of things back. Ad was already waiting in the parking area as usual. When he wanted to help them, Lin Yanchen refused and insisted on carrying the bags himself. He even pretended to be unfamiliar with Ad. “Thank you, I’ll do it myself.”

Ad didn’t persist, retracting his hands and smiling as he watched Lin Yanchen and Chu Xun’s backs.

Lin Yanchen raised the shopping bags in his hand, smiled with his white teeth showing and said, “I’ll treat you to dumplings tomorrow.”

The next day, it was finally the last day of the year.

Lin Yanchen started working in the kitchen early in the morning. Pounding meat and kneading dough for the first time, he needed Chu Xun to teach him. Though the amount was controlled by the older and he only had to use his strength, he did a decent job.

Chu Xun took advantage of the time Lin Yanchen was carrying out the preparation and made an excuse that he needed the toilet to leave the kitchen. He quickly found Ad. “Ad, I want to talk to you alone. There’s something I hope you can help me with. It’s something simple. I won’t make it difficult for you.”

Ad politely asked, “I understand. What can I do for you, sir?”

Chu Xun nodded. “Then I’ll just get straight to the point. This isn’t a tourism package at all, is it? Lin Yanchen isn’t your guest, but your boss, right?”

  5. I hope they talk about Chu Xun’s “illness” at some point… before there is a lot of angst. QAQ I am weak to angst! And yet… I can’t stop reading it lmao. What a conundrum.

  6. Ohhh Chu Xun’s going straight to the point now~ I hope Chu Xun will go through his pregnancy phase together with Yanchen. It’s quite a common trope for the leads in mpreg to meet again after the baby is born aiyoo. How refreshing would it be if Chu Xun could feel Li Yanchen’s love and support through this challenging yet wonderful time.

Thank you for all your efforts and wonderful translation Shoko-san! I bawled my eyes out several times with this novel. Thanks for introducing it to us 💕
